A vintage 1941 British World War 2 army recruiting poster for the women's Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) by artist Abram Games, Britain's official war poster artist. Featuring the profile of a very chic uniformed ATS girl who looks as if she was born for the catwalk, the poster was banned by the then Prime Minister Winston Churchill for being too glamorous. He had a point. The job was anything but glamorous - more often than not the women ended up peeling potatoes and cleaning up. Some went on to work as welders and carpenters.
A British World War II poster to encourage people to grow their own food at home. Illustrated by Peter Fraser for the Ministry of Information, it shows a happy looking gardener walking purposefully with a basket full of the fruits of his labor, including carrots, cabbage and potatoes. He's smoking a pipe and has a gardening fork over his shoulder. The slogan is "Dig on for Victory."

The Avro Lancaster Bomber was a World War II heavy bomber made for the British RAF. The lancaster bomber first saw active service in 1942 and specialised in night time raids. The most famous sorties where against the Rhur Valley Dams, depicted in the film The Dam Busters. Over 7,300 Avro Lancaster Bombers were built during the second war war. Today there are only two remaining Lancaster Bombers left flying, one in the UK and one in Canada. A further 15 are in museums.
